Long May Your Rum Leak

It's an old Scottish custom to go first-footing on New Year's Day. A tall dark handsome stranger is meant to be the 1st to cross your threshold in order to ensure good luck for the coming year, preferably bearing a practical gift such as food, drink or even a lump of coal. While it's debatable whether the Doctor and Nurse have the best of intentions, or what they mean by way of 'lumps' they certainly are dark and strange!
